Fresh violence claims eight civilians in Thailand's deep South

Pattani, Thailand - Attacks on state schools and Thai-Buddhist communities by suspected separatist have claimed eight civilians lives in two days in Thailand's tortured deep South, provincial officials said Tuesday. The fresh wave of violence coincided with the launch Tuesday of a 104-page report by the New York-based Human Rights Watch which roundly blasts the region's Muslim insurgency for targetting civilians in its political struggle.

Two public school teachers were gunned down on Monday in Pattani, 720 kilometres south of Bangkok, and six other Thai-Buddhists slain Monday and early Tuesday.

"The insurgents have shifted their tactics from beheading villagers to targetting public school teachers," said Pattani Governor Panu Uthairat. Altogether 69 teachers have been killed in Thailand's southern conflict over the past three years and eight months.

Female teacher Kesine Timthep, 42, was shot dead Monday in front of her pupils by two gunmen as she was about enter the Sasanasuksa School in Sai Buri, Pattani. A male teacher was also gunned down Monday in Yalang, also in Pattani province.

Arsonists set fire to at least five state schools in the province Monday night, forcing ten schools to shut their doors to pupils on Tuesday.

Prapaijit Noonlaksert, 44, a female rubber tapper, was killed in an ambush early Tuesday as she entered a plantation with four other Thai-Buddhists workers, police said.

"The recent wave of attacks may be in revenge for all the suspects authorities have arrested in recent weeks," said Panu. Thai authorities have rounded up hundreds of suspected insurgents in the past three months, keeping many of them in detention under powers allowed by an emergency decree enacted in the region.

Some 2,500 people have fallen victim to an escalating separatist movement in Thailand's three southernmost provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, since January, 2004, when the conflict took a militant turn for the worse.

The predominantly Muslim region has been the scene of a long simmering separatist struggle for more than six decades that previously targetted Thai security personnel and public property but has now adopted terrorist tactics aimed at civilians.

The New York-based Human Rights Watch on Tuesday launched a 104-page report on the conflict that sharply criticized the separatists for their increasingly brutal attacks on civilians.

"After decades of low-intensity insurgency, Thailand's southern region is becoming the scene of a brutal armed conflict," said Brad Adams, Asia director at Human Rights Watch. "Separatist militants are intentionally targeting both Buddhist and Muslim civilians in shootings, bombings and machete attacks."

The report identifies the Pejuang Kemerdekaan Patani, or Patani Freedom Fighters, in the loose network of National Revolution Front-Coordinate as the backbone of the new generation of Muslim separatist militants.

Of the 2,463 people killed in attacks during the past 40 months, some 89 per cent or 2,196 victims were civilians, it said. At least 29 of the victims had been beheaded.

"Violence against civilians is being used by separatist militants to scare Buddhist Thais away from these provinces, keep ethnic Malay Muslims under control, and discredit the Thai authorities," said Adams. "But it is illegal and morally indefensible to deliberately target civilians in any circumstances."

Education of all is an essential part of a successful culture

Reconstruction Team to Build 29 Schools

Defense News

by Ensign Christopher Weis

KHOWST, Afghanistan, Aug. 28, 2007 — In this rugged border province formerly known for its notorious al-Qaeda training camps, 88,000 Afghan students sit in open fields attending classes, enduring hours under the scorching sun for any opportunity to learn and build a better life.

"Khowst used to be considered a place of death. Now it is a place for new life."

Khowst Gov. Arsala Jamal

One of those students is Farishta, a 12-year-old girl from Jaji Maidan, an outer district of Khowst Province. Speaking just two miles from the Pakistani border, Farishta forcefully explains her commitment to education.

“All I want to do is go to university and become a doctor,” she said.

Standing with Farishta, Provincial Reconstruction Team Cmdr. Dave Adams and Khowst Gov. Arsala Jamal enthusiastically explain how they will help Afghan students like Farishta fulfill their dreams. The Aug. 9 launching of a combined $4 million program to build 29 provincial boy’s and girl’s schools is designed to do just that.

Jamal could not contain his enthusiasm. “Khowst used to be considered a place of death,” he said. “Now it is a place for new life.” The province’s Director of Education Syed Aziz Hashimy agrees.

“If the pace of school building continues over the next two years, no child will be under the open sky or in a tent for classes,” Hashimy said.

The school-building initiative will be especially meaningful for Khowst’s girls. Many young girls like Farishta, a name that means “angel” in Pashto, were previously forced to stay in their family’s compounds and were often denied the opportunity to complete high school, much less university.

However, the reconstruction team's building efforts are designed to bring new hope.

Today, the tribal elders across Khowst are encouraging more girls to attend the new schools. By working with local contractors, the Provincial Reconstruction Team expects the first schools to open by early October, and will finish all 29 schools by the following spring.

“Once the door to education has been opened, the door to ignorance is closed,” said a deputy provincial council member.

For Khowst’s students, the school’s doors will soon be wide open.

Denmark: Islamic group incites war on West

by The Copenhagen Post

Sunday’s national meeting for the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir included incitement to destroy Israel and a re-establishment of the Caliphate Islamic empire

Controversial Islamic organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir celebrated its annual congress in Copenhagen on Sunday with words of anger against Jews and the West, reported daily free newspaper Nyhedsavisen.

Nearly 600 Muslims attended the meeting at KB Hallen in the city’s enclave of Frederiksberg, where religious leaders spoke of the rise of an new Islamic Caliphate and the fall of Western powers.

‘The Caliphate can arrive in an hour, two months or two years from now,’ said Fadi Abdullatif, Hizb ut-Tahrir’s president, who owns a previous conviction for publicly urging his members to kill Jews. ‘We are working for a Caliphate from Morocco to Indonesia and from Khazakhstan to Saudi Arabia.’

The union of nations under a common Islamic law could be created by force if necessary, according to another of Hizb ut Tahrir’s leaders, Atta bin Khalil. Khalil also told those in attendance to ‘continue their state of war against the Jewish nation’.

A third speaker at the congress, Emir Shamil, said that ‘heads may roll’ in the recreation of the Caliphate.

Big News: Iraqis in US Protest AGAINST Islamic Terrorism
mehrnews.com

TEHRAN, Aug 25 (MNA)-- Hundreds of Iraqis residing in the U.S. converged in the front of the Saudi embassy in Washington on Friday condemning Riyadh’s policy towards Iraq, Sotaliraq said on its website. With slogans “Down with Terrorism” and “Shia and Sunni Should Unite in Iraq,” demonstrators called for the immediate halt to Saudi support for terrorism in Iraq and the issuance of “takfiri” religious decrees (fatwas) by Saudi scholars.

Nazar Heydar, the director of Iraq information center in Washington and a member of the international center for campaign against terrorism, said “by this demonstration we meant to draw the attention of the world to Saudi Arabia as the real source of terrorism.”

“We believe that by issuing takfiri religious decrees and financial support of terrorist operations, Saudi Arabia is the real source of terrorism, not only in Iraq, but in the entire world. We read in the press that 50% of suicide bombers in Iraq are Saudi nationals,” he explained.

In a statement issued by Iraqi demonstrators, they called upon the U.S. to pressure Saudi Arabia to stop actions leading to the murder of innocents.

A huge cultural issue - an issue not to be sneered at

Turkey at odds over prospect of presidential first lady clad in Islamic dress
International Herald Tribune - iht.com

ANKARA, Turkey: Turkey's secular establishment and its Islamic-leaning government have long quarreled fiercely over weighty issues such as the appointment of Islamic-minded officials and the role of the military in politics.

But nothing has inflamed passions quite as much as a debate over a simple item of clothing.

Secularist horror at the idea a woman who wears a Muslim headscarf might enter the presidential palace that was once home to modern Turkey's revered — and decidedly secular — founding father, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, is at the heart of a battle over the presidential ambitions of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.

Gul seems set to fulfill his dream of becoming president as parliament heads into a decisive vote Tuesday on his nomination in which the ruling party needs only a simple majority to secure his victory.

Gul's wife, Hayrunnisa, has been wearing the hijab, the Muslim scarf covering the head and neck, since her teens, and was a leading campaigner for women's right to wear the scarf. The head covering, many believe, is mandated by Islamic tradition.

Secularists view the headscarf — banned in government offices and schools — as a challenge to the modern path Ataturk set for Turkey. They fear that any move to relax the headscarf ban would undermine secularism.

They scoff at the notion a woman clad in an Islamic garment might represent a secular nation that is vying for European Union membership. And they remember how Hayrunnisa Gul once appealed to the European Court of Human Rights for the right to wear the headscarf to a university and fear she will subject the presidency to Islamic influence.

Why cultural linchpin laws would be so effective against "extremism"

Two Christian girls of 11 and 16 kidnapped, converted to Islam and forced to marry
Asia News

by Qaiser Felix

Faisalabad (AsiaNews) – Two Christian girls, little more than children, were kidnapped from their families recently, forcibly converted to Islam and then married off to strangers. Both of the kidnaps took place in Faisalabad, the third largest city in Pakistan, and both were completely ignored by the police. The phenomenon is not a new one however, underlined numerous human rights activist, but it is dangerously on the increase.

On August 5 Muhammad Adnan, a Muslim from Zulfiqar colony Faisalabad and his sister kidnapped Zunaira, an eleven years old Christian girl from her home in Warispura. After the kidnap, they forced her to convert to Islam and marry her kidnaper Muhammad.

The small girl’s mother, Abida, told AsiaNews: “When I was roaming in streets in search of my daughter two Muslim men of the area told me that they saw Adnan and his sister taking my daughter”. Abida decided to go to the kidnapper’s house, from which however she is thrown out. Returning home, she was contacted by two men who revealed the kidnappers identity and offer to act as negotiators for her daughters release in exchange for money.

Despite being desperately poor, Abida gives them 12 thousand Rupees (200 Euro): “I didn’t want to inform the police, because my daughter was engaged and I didn’t want my relatives to know. Unfortunately I found out too late that those men who said they would help me only want money: I have sold all I have, but it wasn’t enough and now I am alone”. Abida then turned to the police, but they refused help. The fact that the marriage is invalid given the age of the bride, “is not a matter for the police” said the officers.

In the second case Shumaila Tabussum, (16), was kidnapped from her home on August 16 by a Muslim man Mazher and some other unknown people. They told Shumaila that her father had been seriously injured in an accident and offered to accompany her to the hospital where he had been taken. The girl, without waiting for her mother, got into Mazher’s car: on the way she met two uncles at shouted the news of her father’s accident to them. These made their way to the hospital but found no-one.

Salamat Masih, 37, Shumaila’s father, immediately reported the abduction to the police. He told AsiaNews that he is “very worried because cases such as these are on the increase: Christian girls abducted, forcibly converted and subjected to becoming the wives of complete strangers”.

Khalil Tahir, chairman of a free legal aid organization “Adal Trust” and a well known Christian lawyer confirms this: “the growing number of attacks against Christians is worrying. We try to aid the victim’s families and at the same time help those who are subjected to this violence legally and practically, but the government must intervene with force if this is to be stopped”.

The big apple has a cancerous worm

The Big Apple Has A Worm
by Rich Carroll

CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations) tied closely to Hamas and other Islamic TERRORIST organizations must be laughing themselves silly about now at the tax paying citizens of New York, but let's back-up just a little to fully outline this bunch of thugs we call "CAIR":
Since its founding in 1994, CAIR and its employees have combined and conspired with the Islamic Association for Palestine, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, the Global Relief Foundation and foreign nationals hostile to the interests of the United States to provide material support to known terrorist organizations, to advance the Hamas agenda, and to propagate radical Islam.
Bassem Khafagi, CAIR Director of Community Relations: Arrested by the United States due to his ties with terror-financing. He pled guilty to charges of bank fraud and agreed to be deported to Egypt.
Ghassan Elashi, founding board member of CAIR-Texas, arrested and charged with export fraud, dealing in the property of terrorist organizations, conspiracy and money laundering. Found guilty and deported.
Siraj Wahaj, CAIR board member, Co-conspirator in the first World Trade Center bombing, called for replacing the American government with an Islamic caliphate and warned that America will crumble unless it accepts Islam.
Rabih Haddad, CAIR Fundraiser, co-founder of Global Relief Foundation and found guilty by the US Treasury Department for financing Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.
Consistent with Hamas, CAIR has served as a conduit for the distribution of materials and funds from foreign nationals to groups within the United States for the purpose of promoting radical Islam and attack anyone who rejects their ideology.
Enter the Khalil Gibran Islamist Academy in New York City. Six years after being bombed by Islam, New Yorkers are tax funding a private school for Muslims. (Gasp that they would tax-fund a private school for Christians!). And surprise!; the principal of the new "school" Dhabah Almonstater, was presented a plaque and award by, you guessed it: CAIR. More importantly, the curriculum of her New York Department of Public Education school has been designed by the radical American Arab Anti Discrimination Committee [ADC].
The ADC's funder [and recipient of the ADC's "Global Achievement Award"] Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal's 10 million dollar donation to the 9/11 victims charity was rejected by then NY Mayor Giuliani because of Talal's claim that American policy towards Israel was the reason for the terrorist outrage. Talal has also raised money to reward the family's of suicide bombers.

The ADC is also in the forefront of filing discrimination lawsuits and legal challenges aimed at obstructing the FBI, JTTF and Homeland Security from investigating Arab and Muslims who pose potential terrorism threats.

Six years after the attacks and still no memorial at Ground Zero, instead 2007 will see the opening of the taxpayer funded Brooklyn based madrassah; "The Khalil Gibran International Academy for Arabic and Islamic Culture."

Am I being too harsh on New Yorkers? Hold on; there's more: On September 9, 2007, Muslims from the tri-state area will converge on New York for the Muslim Parade which the city has agreed to host. And if past parades are any indication, law enforcement will need to be on high alert, as the participants have been amongst the most radical Islamists in the nation. The parade amounts to an Islamist rally for terrorism, anti-democracy and anti-Americanism. Past parades have included such extremists as death squad leader Ashrafuzzaman Khan, co-conspirator of the 1993 WTC bombing and the new principal of the Khalil Gibran Islam Academy who defended T-shirts calling for Intifada in New York. The parade is being co-sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood of Pakistan, a brutally radical group who just last year provided Hamas with $99,000.000 for the purpose of killing innocent Israeli civilians.

This author cannot help but think that somewhere in the Arabian desert twelve old men are sitting inside a tent eating figs and laughing and at least one making the comment, "Akmed, the secular humanists and atheists in America will give us their sovereignty without having to fire another shot! They actually think WE are the victims of 911!" (Raucous laughter)....

This author also can no longer have faith in the citizenry of New York to help defend my sovereign nation against a murdering cult who's sole purpose is global domination of Islam. I am no longer interested in the "Apple". The worm can have you.

Why Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week Is Needed

Why Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week Is Needed

By John Perazzo

FrontPageMagazine.com

Members of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) are up in arms over an announced event which they depict as a “hateful” assault against the dignity of Muslims everywhere. “I haven’t decided what I think might be the recommended approach to this,” comments one MSA member. “Do we counter it with parallel events? Do we ignore it all together? Do we use it as motivation to put more work into our usual MSA activities?” Says another, “It would be nice to see some sort of unified response across all [MSA] campuses.” A third declares, “In all cases our action/reaction would be more effective if we get other like-minded student organizations, campus leaders, and professors to join in too. . . . Rather than critici[z]e this specific program, I think we need to discredit the whole [sponsoring] organization and its founders for being so hateful and intolerant.”

The target of this ire is Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, and the sponsor is the David Horowitz Freedom Center. It will be held on more than 100 college campuses across the United States during the week of October 22-26, and will be the largest conservative student protest in American history.

The goals of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week are:

· TO EXPLAIN WHO THE ENEMY IS -- not “terror,” but a fanatical religious movement associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the sponsors of the Muslim Student Association; it is a movement including al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- whose common goal is the creation of a global Muslim empire ruled by an Islamic “pope” or caliphate, to be based in Iraq, once America is defeated.

· TO COUNTER THE LEFT’S BIG LIE -- that “George Bush created the war on terror,” and to do this by means of campus demonstrations, guest speakers, and documentary films. The speakers will include former Senator Rick Santorum, Robert Spencer, Christopher Hitchens, Nonie Darwish, Wafa Sultan, David Horowitz, Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, Frank Gaffney, Cliff May, Phyllis Chessler and Ibn Warraq. The films will include Obsession; Suicide Killers; Border; Islam vs. Islam; and Islam: What the West Needs to Know.

· TO PROTEST THE VIOLENT OPPRESSION OF WOMEN IN ISLAM -- the “honor killings,” arranged marriages, child brides, and second-class citizenship of Muslim women.

· TO STRENGTHEN THOSE ON CAMPUS WHO REJECT THE ANTI-AMERICAN CURRICULUM OF THE TENURED LEFT which teaches that America is a racist, sexist, homophobic, imperialist “Great Satan” whose little Eichmanns deserve what they get at the hands of Medieval religious fanatics armed with the latest technologies of death.

· TO TEACH AN ALTERNATIVE CURRICULUM THAT WILL ARM AMERICA AGAINST THE RADICAL JIHAD – This curriculum will teach that Islam, as currently practiced in Muslim states, oppresses women, gays, Christians, Jews and atheists. It will teach that “Islamo-fascists hate us not because we are oppressors but because we are Christians, Jews, atheists, gays, and liberated women, and because we are tolerant, generous and free."

In a related measure calling upon “all campus political, cultural, ethnic and religious groups to [oppose] all forms of religious supremacism, violence and intimidation,” the David Horowitz Freedom Center has drafted an Islamo-Fascism Petition affirming four major principles:

· “the right of all people to live in freedom and dignity”

· “the freedom of the individual conscience to change religions or have no religion at all”

· “the equality of dignity of women and men”

· “the right of all people to live free from violence, intimidation, and coercion”

The petition states descriptively and unequivocally: “Islamic Jihadists around the world have declared war on America, Israel and the West” and seek nothing less than “world domination” and “the suppression of all Infidels” -- among which they enumerate homosexuals, Christians, Jews, and all non-religious people.

The Freedom Center is calling on the Muslim Student Association to sign the petition and to reject the hateful agendas of its sponsors, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Casting itself as a defender of religious tolerance and moderation, the Muslim Student Association proclaims:

Sincerity is the foundation of our existence. Knowledge precedes our actions. Humility guides our conduct. Truthfulness is the mark of our speech. Moderation is the compass of our journey. Tolerance is the banner of our outreach. Forgiveness precedes our reconciliatory efforts. Patience is the hallmark of our planning. Gratitude binds our hearts together.

The facts are quite different. Founded in January 1963 by members of the Muslim Brotherhood – which is the ideological forebear of all radical Islamic movements, including Hamas and al Qaeda -- MSA currently has chapters on nearly 240 college and university campuses across North America. According to author and Islam expert Stephen Schwartz, MSA is a key lobbying organization for Wahhabism, the extremist form of Islam practiced in Saudi Arabia. From its inception, MSA maintained close links with the Muslim World League (MWL), a Saudi-based, Saudi-funded organization that similarly promotes Wahhabism.

MSA also has strong ties to the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, one of the vehicles through which the Saudi government funds Islamic extremism and international terrorism. WAMY was co-founded by Kamal Helwabi (a former senior member of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood) and Abdullah bin Laden (Osama bin Laden’s nephew). WAMY not only raises funds for Hamas, but in October 2002 it made Hamas leader Khaled Mash'al an “honored guest” at a Muslim youth and globalization conference held in Riyadh.

In years past, MSA solicited donations for the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, whose assets the U.S. government seized in December 2001 because that organization was giving financial support to Hamas.

An influential member of International ANSWER’s pro-Saddam, pro-Kim Jong-Il steering committee, MSA maintained a large presence at numerous ANSWER-sponsored antiwar demonstrations. While condemning the Patriot Act as an “infamous” piece of legislation, MSA chose not to endorse or participate in the May 14, 2005 “Free Muslims March Against Terror,” an event whose purpose was to “send a message to the terrorists and extremists that their days are numbered . . . [and to send] a message to the people of the Middle East, the Muslim world and all people who seek freedom, democracy and peaceful coexistence that we support them.”

On October 22, 2000, Ahmed Shama, then-president of the UCLA Muslim Students’ Association, led a crowd of demonstrators at the Israeli consulate in chants of “Death to Israel!” and “Death to the Jews!” One guest speaker at the event was Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) member Hamid Ayloush, who solicited contributions for the aforementioned Holy Land Foundation.

At a January 21, 2001 MSA event, guest speaker Imam Abdul Alim Musa declared that just as the Soviet Union had been “wiped off the face of the earth,” “Old Sam [the U.S.] is next.”

In recent years, MSA members at UCLA raised money for Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists at their annual “Anti-Zionist Week.”

In March 2003, speaker Muammad Faheed told an MSA meeting at Queensborough Community College in New York: “The only relationship you should have with America is to topple it!”

At its Annual Conference in 2003, the Iowa Muslim Student Association invited, as a guest speaker, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, an avowed “supporter of the Hamas movement.” CAIR is a front for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The University of Southern California MSA invited Taliban ambassador Sayyid Hashimi to speak on its campus six months before 9/11.

Why is a group like this receiving student funds on 150 American campuses? The Muslim Student Association is itself a hate group and part of the Islamo-Fascist movement of which Americans in general, and American students in particular, need to become aware. That’s why the David Horowitz Freedom Center is organizing October’s demonstrations, and that’s why the Muslim Student Association is so vexed about it.

Time to tell American Muslims to clean their house up and quit blaming others

US police report blasted for marginalising Muslims
The Muslim

by Rana Ghayyour

The main US Muslim advocacy group and rights organisations have blasted a New York Police Department report suggesting that young American Muslims are particularly vulnerable to be recruited as terrorists.

"Whatever one thinks of the analysis contained in the report, its sweeping generalisations and mixing of unrelated elements may serve to cast a pall of suspicion over the entire American Muslim community," said Parvez Ahmed, Board Chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

IOL reported that the NYPD suggested that Muslims aged 15-35 are particularly vulnerable to radicalisation.

The 90-page report suggested a four-phased process of radicalisation during which personal crises such as losing a job or suffering from racism can serve as a catalyst.

The report argued that a Muslim can pivot quickly toward violence within two or three years.

"The culmination of this process is a terrorist attack."

CAIR ridiculed the report's suggestions that positive changes in personal behavior such as giving up smoking, drinking and gambling are signs of radicalisation: "Is Islamic attire or giving up bad habits, which is something recommended by leaders of all faiths, now to be regarded as suspicious behavior?"

The rights advocacy group also complained that the report listed sites that are likely to be visited by any American Muslim as radicalisation "incubators". The sites listed include mosques, cafes, cab driver hangouts, student associations, nongovernmental organisations, butcher shops, and book stores.

Ahmed added: "While labeling almost every American Muslim as a potential terrorist, the report's authors admit that their findings offer no useful way to identify real terror suspects."

He warned of the report backlash: "By promoting stereotypes and unwarranted suspicions, the report's authors encourage marginalisation of and hostility toward the American Muslim community."

In its 2006 annual report, CAIR documented a surge of almost 25 per cent in discrimination and hate crimes against American Muslims.

It recently urged Muslims nationwide to review security procedures to protect their places of worship, citing an increase in incidents involving vandalism of mosques and several physical attacks.

It has circulated a set of guidelines designed to protect mosques and their worshippers which includes building good relationships with neighbors, having people attend the mosque regularly and consulting with the community relations officer of the local police department.

Christopher Dunn, of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said the report risks turning law-abiding Muslims away from cooperating with the authorities: "While aggressive counterterrorism policies are to be commended, this report appears to treat all young Muslims as suspects and to lay the groundwork for wholesale surveillance of Muslim communities without there being any sign of unlawful conduct."

"To target Muslims in this way would mark a dangerous and unlawful erosion of the line separating the police from lawful religious activity," he cautioned.

The Executive Director of The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Kareem W. Shora, said the police report was stigmatising the whole Muslim community: "The report is at odds with federal law enforcement findings, including those of the recently released National Intelligence Estimate, and uses unfortunate stereotyping of entire communities."

Since the 9/11 attacks, American Muslims have become sensitised to an erosion of their civil rights, with a prevailing belief that America was targeting their faith

The report has been delivered to the White House, the CIA, the FBI and the Homeland Security Department.

"Limited War Doctrine: Lessons Not Learned."

"Limited War Doctrine: Lessons Not Learned."
By Chris Allen

One of the greatest benefits of recorded history
is 'hindsight', or, hopefully, the ability to look
back and learn. Although using cliches can seem
oversimplistic, 'Live and Learn' comes to mind, or for
the more highbrow reader, Edmund Burke offered "Those
who don't know history are destined to repeat it." War
history should not only be studied, but adapted and
implemented in todays conflict with Islam.

We are not in a war with Iraq. We are not at war
with Pakistan or Afghanistan, as countries. Our
current conflict is a war without borders, a war where
Iraq is but one battle stage in an ongoing campaign.
Our 'War on Terror' is more aptly described as a 'War
against Islam", and yes, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and
Syria are all involved. Wherever Muslims plot for
worldwide Islamic domination and the imposition of
Shar'ia law, that is where our war exists. They will
attack us (infidels, non-muslims) anywhere on the
planet, so we must realize our current conflict is
truly World War III; no borders, victims everywhere.

Historically, the successful, proven war doctrine
is Total War. Total War is the utilization of all
means available to destroy the enemy's capability to
fight. Total war is designed to bring conflict
resolution; to end war. Total War works, yet the
concept was overwritten with the rise of nuclear war
capabilites. Nuclear combat was determined to be too
dangerous and generally unacceptable to the American
public at large. Hence, a profound philosophical shift

in war strategy occurred; the emergence of "Limited
War". By its very nature, 'limited war' doctrine is a
reactionary paradigm, providing military action
corresponding in degree to the perceived threat or
aggression. Limited war, and the attendant public
mindset, delivered lengthly engagement, excessive
casualities and ultimately, withdrawal from Vietnam.
Vietnam should have conclusively proven that 'limited
war' cannot deliver a positive resolution when used
against an enemy who will accept any amount of
casualities to win. If our enemy will suffer any loss
to win, and he realizes we will not and that we will
not obliterate him (as would be an objective with a
Total War strategic plan), he settles in knowing he
need only OUTLAST us.

Additionally, abandoning the Total war concept is
to forfeit our most obvious strength: technological
superiority. In an age where our attackers hit us by
blowing themselves up and terrorizing civilians, our
high tech warfare capabilities should provide
considerable advantages. Total war would be hitting
wherever these attackers are, demolishing every camp,
town or strong hold they possess, and doing it without
delay. Delay (an integral part of 'limited war' due to
the bureaucratic need for careful determination of
what is considered an "appropriate response') exhausts
our public will, and more importantly, protracts the
fighting which endangers our soldiers.

Attempts to build a new government within a
country where we are chasing enemies, while admirable,
are unseemly. Until there has been decisive victory,
Iraq's stability is in a fluid state and the
terrorists we wish to conquer have a vested interest
in keeping it so. This is a an option available to the
jihadists as a result of our limited war mentality.

Limited war strategy also has two detrimental
consequences that, over time, make the necessary
adjustment to 'total war' strategy more difficult, if
not impossible. Obviously, prolonged conflicts weaken
the will of the American populace, lessening their
tolerance for lengthly, costly battles. So any
suggestion that the conflict be taken to another level
is likely to meet extreme opposition. Also, limited
war strategy produces soldiers/veterans/leaders who
have not had experience in winning 'total war'
situations. Limited war causes stagnant conflicts and
grows the bureaucratic logistical support systems that
can hinder the ACTUAL war effort. So, this is the
experience of the future military leaders we are
producing; reactionary and bureaucratic.

I believe that "Limited War" and the suggestion
that 'U.S. troops should only be committed
wholeheartedly and with the clear intention of
winning' are mutually exclusive ideas against an enemy
such as Islamic jihadists. The longer we engage in
'limited war' strategy, the more lives are lost, the
more Americans fail to focus on the Islamists
themselves and turn toward condemning our politicians
and fighting fellow Americans. Additionally, the
longer this war goes on, the more committed the
Islamists become, sensing that the harm they inflict
is taking its toll on battle weary, weak infidels.

What will it take to turn Americans from the
limited war doctrine, to galvanize regular citizens to
WANT to win? I am not sure. Sadly, I suspect a massive
and brutal attack which places thousands upon
thousands dead in the streets would be a step toward
the "reality-wake up call" so many need. How wonderful
it would be if we could spare ourselves this horror,
save lives, recognize Islam for the threat that it is,
and adjust our attitude to that of VICTOR.

We need historians and leaders who recognize the
realities of our past conflicts and will use lessons
learned the hard way to ensure future victories. If
things are not working (limited war), adjust to win.

The ghost of Kitty Genovese in St. Paul…and breaking the silence in Afghanistan
By Michelle Malkin

You remember Kitty Genovese. She was the young woman stabbed to death in Queens in the 1960s as 38 bystanders witnessed the attack but did nothing to help. Kitty Genovese Syndrome entered the national lexicon. The papers quoted one cowardly witness who explained the unwillingness to even pick up the phone to call the police: “I didn’t want to get involved.” For every Good Samaritan willing to intervene, there’s an ostrich who sticks his head in the hand while a victim cries out for help. In St. Paul, citizens and law enforcement officials are horrified by another example of Kitty Genovese Syndrome…this one caught on videotape:

As many as 10 people witnessed a man raping and beating a woman early Tuesday in the hallway of a St. Paul apartment building, police said Wednesday. No one stopped it. At one point, the 26-year-old victim knocked on a door, yelling for the occupants to call police. A man inside told police he didn’t open the door or look out, though he said he called police. Police found no record of the call, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Ramsey County District Court. St. Paul police arrested Rage Ibrahim, 25, on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct Tuesday. He hasn’t been charged.

Yes, his name is “Rage.”

“It was horrifying. I can’t describe how it sent chills up my back, watching this woman getting assaulted and people turning their backs and doing nothing,” said St. Paul police Cmdr. Shari Gray, who oversees the department’s sex crimes unit. She saw surveillance video that recorded the attack in the Highwood neighborhood. As the woman screamed, five to 10 people - men and women - peeked out their apartment doors to see what was happening or started walking down the hallway and retreated after witnessing the assault, Gray said.

They did nothing.

When police arrived, they found Ibrahim and a woman on the floor in a hallway, both naked from the waist down. The woman appeared to have blood on her legs and injuries to her face. Ibrahim told the officers they were just drunk, but the crying woman told them Ibrahim had drugged and raped her. Paramedics took the woman to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for a sexual assault examination and to be treated for her injuries. The surveillance video shows Ibrahim and the woman leaving an apartment, and Ibrahim standing over the woman and removing his pants. A man approached Ibrahim and the woman at one point, the video shows. Ibrahim got up, confronted the man and, with no pants on, chased him down the hallway. Ibrahim then returned to the woman. The video also shows Ibrahim striking the woman five times.

An activist from something called the “Somali Justice Advocacy Center” is speaking out. No, not on behalf of the female victim. He’s defending the male assailant caught on tape assaulting the victim:

Charged with two counts of rape, Rage Ibrahim turned himself in to Ramsey County authorities Thursday afternoon. “Ibrahim is innocent of rape he said,” says Omar Jamal with the Somali Justice Center, speaking on behalf of Ibrahim.

This Omar Jamal character is quite active on the domestic violence scene, playing both sides, and he’s been dubbed the Al Sharpton of the Twin Cities’ Somali community. (Despite being convicted of lying to immigration officials, he has yet to be deported.) Here’s an article from the Star-Tribune from August 17 on domestic violence in the Somali Muslim community and the code of silence that pervades the culture:

The victim wasn’t in the St. Paul courtroom Friday when Afif Abdiaziz Ahmed was sentenced to 17½ years in prison.

Ahmed beat his wife so badly last summer in her St. Paul apartment that she is in a prison of her own: She has permanent brain damage and scars. She will never be able to care for her 17-month-old son because she will never be able to care for herself. Advocates and law enforcement authorities say domestic violence often is a taboo topic in the male-dominated Somali community. Women are strongly discouraged from reporting it, said Omar Jamal of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center. There is a “deep mistrust in the system,” he said. “This case created bad disagreement in the community. Most of the men didn’t like that the women [took the case] this far.”

Liberal naivete and cluelessness rule:

No one appeared in the courtroom gallery on behalf of the victim or the defendant. Jamal said that he’d encouraged the victim’s relatives to come to court but that they fear a backlash from the community. “If we talk about it, maybe there’s hope,” he said. “But nobody even wants to talk about it.” Elders try to discourage women from reporting domestic violence and pressure them to drop cases or not show up in court, he said.

Lucky Farah, a legal advocate with the Domestic Abuse Project in Minneapolis, painted a less grim picture. If a woman is being abused, the elders and family members “stick together to try to solve the problem,” she said. “That’s how it’s always been in Somalia. “They don’t have bad intentions,” she said, but they need more education on the dynamics of domestic violence. Too often, the community thinks of domestic violence “as a normal marriage issue,” she said. “If they were more educated to think of it as a problem, then the whole thing might be different.”

“They don’t have bad intentions?”

Tell that to the 7-year-old Afghan girl raped by two men in Kabul, Afghanistan whose case is spotlighted here. These monstrous attacks are tolerated daily, justified daily, and covered up daily by see-no-evil, hear-no-evil conspirators under sharia law:

Two brothers — identified only as 18-year-old Ismat and 24-year-old Mohammad — allegedly asked their teenage sister to lure the girl to their home in the Jaghuri district of Ghazni province and raped her until she lost consciousness, according to human rights officials and advocates handling the case. The suspects were briefly held by police and then freed. Rights officials suspect they used personal contacts or bribes to secure their release. The girl’s family fled north to the capital, leaving home under cover of darkness. “The district chief went to the uncle and said if they complain any further or go to Kabul, he’s going to personally come and kill them,” said Manizha Naderi, director of the advocacy organization Women for Afghan Women, which is helping the girl’s family. Jaghuri district chief Khada Dad Erfani denied any threat, and claimed tribal elders and relatives of the girl and the brothers intervened, preferring to handle the case through tribal law instead of potentially embarrassing legal proceedings.

…The two suspects’ 15-year-old sister knew the 7-year-old because they grazed sheep together. The sister invited the girl to eat cheese and then left her with Ismat and Mohammad, said Jamila Zafar, a social worker who is counseling the girl and her family. After attacking the child, the brothers left her unconscious near the family home. When she came to, she went home and complained of stomach pains for a few days, Zafar said. The family then took her to the hospital, where doctors examined the girl and determined she had been raped.

The attackers and their apologists don’t need “education.” They need to be damned to hell. This is the little girl rendered mute and still suffering pain from the vicious attack that bystanders wanted to whitewash:

Turban ban not racist, insist Irish Police
Irish Examiner

by Shalva

Gardaí tonight defended its rule banning Sikh officers from wearing a turban on duty, claiming the force was not racist but trying to be impartial while providing a state service.

Controversy erupted earlier this week after a Sikh man, an IT professional in his 20s, began training to join the Garda Reserve.

Initially he was told wearing a turban would not be a problem but later a senior officer warned if he wanted to go on duty in a station, he would have to remove it, sparking criticism about the gardaí’s alleged outdated rules.

Superintendent Kevin Donohoe of the Garda Press Office said the force was not advocating one religious belief over another and that An Garda Síochána had an effective intercultural policy.

“There is no doubt that the Garda uniform and dress standards present unique issues in accommodating cultural diversity,” he said.

“These are challenges faced by all facets of Irish society as diversity and integration more and more become real issues.

“The Garda Síochána has, historically, been seen as providing an impartial police service, policing all sections of society equally.

“Accommodating variations to our standard uniform and dress, including those with religious symbolism, may well affect that traditional stance and give an image of An Garda Síochána which the Commissioner feels the public would not want.”

The rule was criticised this week by the Green Party’s Ciaran Cuffe and the Irish Sikh Council. The London-based Metropolitan Police Sikh Association (MPSA) said the uniform policy was 40 years behind the United Kingdom and accused the gardai of racial discrimination.

But Supt Donohoe said An Garda Siobhan's integration policy had not been formulated on a whim, but from extensive research and consultations.

“In March 2006, the Garda Commissioner established a group to examine the issues relating to integration of religious and ethnic minorities into An Garda Síochána and the development of appropriate supports,” he said.

That group engaged with a wide range of organisations including the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism, the Equality Authority and other police services.

Gardai have also formulated an intercultural approach to welcome and integrate diversity within the force.

Under this initiative entry requirements were changed to encourage those from different backgrounds to join, 500 Garda Ethnic Liaison Officers were appointed and the Garda Racial and Intercultural Office was set up in 2001.

“These initiatives, including that of dress standards, comply fully with the intercultural approach adopted by An Garda Síochána, with the sole aim of ensuring the integrity of the organisation and its capacity to provide an impartial service to the citizens of this state,” Supt Donohoe said.

Special Meals For Jew, Muslim Inmates Halted
local6

MIAMI -- Jewish inmates who follow strict religious diets at state prisons are no longer provided meals in line with their beliefs. Muslims must now eat vegan food to satisfy their religious requirements.

The Corrections Department has ended the Jewish Dietary Accommodation Program, which provided kosher meals to not only Jews, but to Muslims as well, because the state prison system does not offer halal food. Cost -- and fairness -- were cited as factors.

"We have 100 faiths represented by DOC inmates, so it would be impossible to satisfy everyone's preferences and unfair to do it for one group and not another," agency spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said. "We just have to look at what our mission is and what's best for our overall department and the overall population of inmates in our system instead of a smaller group."

The department has suspended use of pork products in an attempt to appease religious adherents and will continue to serve vegetarian and vegan meals. It said many Jews and Muslims could choose the vegan option, which is free of any animal products, to adhere to their faiths.

But for the strict followers of kosher and halal diets, it is far from ideal.

Rabbi Jack Romberg of Temple Israel in Tallahassee, who was a member of a group that reviewed religious dietary accommodations in prisons, noted that unless the vegan food is prepared separately from other meals, it would not satisfy kosher law. Ahmed Bedier of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Tampa said vegan food would meet the religious requirements of those who follow a halal diet, but would cause undue hardship.

"Either you have a choice of violating your own religion beliefs or you're coerced to only eat vegan," Bedier said. "That's probably not a reasonable accommodation."

Rules on halal and kosher foods are intricate, but at their core are similar in that both exclude pork and mandate a specific way in which an animal is to be killed. Kosher laws dictate the way food is cooked as well.

The Corrections Department halted new enrollment in the state's Jewish Dietary Accommodation Program in April -- when it had 259 inmates enrolled and another 95 seeking inclusion -- and commissioned a review. Last year, the department opened the kosher meal program to non-Jews and officials have feared it would burgeon, along with the bill.

The study group that looked at the issue recommended more stringent screening of applicants to ensure they weren't claiming religious beliefs simply to get different food. But the department said it wasn't feasible.

"It becomes impossible to really assess a person's faith and determine who should and who should not participate," Plessinger said. "By telling a person you're not faithful enough or not religious in your faith that's not really fair either."

The study group also recommended possible use of prepackaged kosher meals, a move members said could ease some logistical hurdles and better suit inmates' faiths.

"I wouldn't know why they wouldn't accept the recommendation," Romberg said.

The department said costs for the program ran the risk of running too high and could take away money from educational and vocational programming in prisons. There are about 93,000 inmates in state prisons, with an estimated 3.7 percent of them Muslim and 2.2 percent Jewish.

The state said it costs about $2.66 daily to serve inmates three regular meals. Kosher meals cost the same, but with costs for disposable containers and transportation, since the food wasn't prepared in each facility, the price came to about $4.71 daily. Prepackaged kosher meals would have cost roughly $12 to $15 daily per prisoner, according to the department, but also may have come with additional costs for transport and supplementation with additional food items.

A survey included in the study group's recommendations found that nationally, among 34 states that responded, 26 had kosher menus available. Out of 33 state responses, just five offered halal food.

Florida state regulations mandate three meals -- at least two of them hot -- be served to inmates each day, and that "inmates who wish to observe religious dietary laws receive a diet sufficient to sustain them in good health without violating those dietary laws."

The state was already the target of a still-unresolved lawsuit filed last year on behalf of Muslim inmates denied meals in accordance with their diets. Randall Berg, the Florida Justice Institute attorney who filed that suit, said he was considering amending the complaint to include Jewish inmates.

"One of the things we as a society ought to be wanting inmates to do is to get on the right track while they're in prison," he said. "The last thing we want to do is to alienate prisoners from their religious beliefs."

Harry Dammer, a criminal justice professor at the University of Scranton who studies religion in prisons, said he did expect more lawsuits.

"The trend is to come up with this one alternative meal that will sort of encompass all of these parties," he said, "and it's not going to be easy to do."

Cultural moderation will fight extremism

Local Muslims must help cops target terror
NY Daily News

by IMAM SHAMSI ALI

An NYPD report issued last week shined a spotlight on the growing threat of homegrown radicalism. As a member of the city's Muslim community, I must say: By describing the problem clearly, the report is an important contribution to our understanding of the terrorist threat.

Indeed, I am honored the report cited an article of mine, published in the Daily News last year, as evidence that the city's Islamic community sees a real danger in its midst. My commentary singled out a local radical group, the Islamic Thinkers Society, and warned against other poisonous elements.

In the wake of the NYPD report, people throughout the city's Muslim community must now ensure an ongoing, aggressive effort to root out radicals in the five boroughs.

New Yorkers should understand: Some of this is already underway. Many prominent Muslim leaders are fully aware of a fringe element whose sentiments stem primarily from a misinterpretation of religious teachings as well as from international political tensions.

To counteract these influences, we have taken progressive, positive steps - working closely with youth to educate and advise against the dangers of radical ideas. We understand that if we consider confronting this hatred a job for the police alone, they - and we - will fail. It is neighbors, clerics, family members and friends who see dangerous patterns as they emerge. We are the ones clued into potential problems before they might turn deadly.

Regrettably, some in the Muslim community have had a one-sided reaction to the NYPD report. One prominent organization issued astatement saying the "sweeping generalizations and mixing of unrelated elements may serve to cast a pall of suspicion over the entire American Muslim community."

While I agree with some of those words, it is critically important that we in the Muslim community acknowledge the undeniable scourge ofhomegrown radicalism even as we criticize others for making generalizations.

Yes, it is true: At times the NYPD report paints the Muslim community with too broad a brush. It fails to take note of the many changes that have taken place within our community over the years. I believe radicals are much more marginalized today than they were, for instance, 12 months ago.

And the report broadly identifies Muslim student associations, mosques, bookstores and other locations as possible hotbeds of radicalism. Such generalizations are not helpful. Finally, while the report correctly identifies "salafis" - members of a narrow strain of Islam - as the source of many radical views, it incorrectly identifies two prominent Muslims, Sayyid Qutb and Abul A'la Maududi, as salafis.

But on the central question, let there be no doubt: The Police Department has it right. Radicals who seek to incite hatred have been and remain a danger to New York.

Last September in these pages, I wrote: "There are local preachers who distort our faith to foment hatred of America. There are people who, rather than encouraging young people to build better lives for themselves, irresponsibly egg them on toward an angry and narrow view of the future. I see this danger every day."

We must communicate clearly that such views have never and will never be accepted by mainstream Muslims. And the police must have more trust in - and a more nuanced understanding of - us. Only when we work hand in hand can we eradicate this very real threat.

Ali is deputy imam of the Islamic Cultural Center of New York and director of the Jamaica Muslim Center in Queens.

The mullahs are the core problem, not their endless brainwashed zombies

Mullahs and Opiates
American Thinker

by Amil Imani

America and her quasi-backboned "allies" have a huge problem that grows by the day. Expectedly, there are as many analyses of our problem as there are "experts" to tell us what to think. A deluge of Western analysts have their diverse expert opinions regarding the "Mullah Problem" and what do about it. Some strategists advocate a military solution that ranges from full invasion of Iran to selective bombardment of its burgeoning nuclear centers and related facilities. Others are proponents of imposing economic sanctions of various types and severity. Still others feel that we simply have to learn to live with the inevitable-those "crazy" Mullahs with the bomb.

Perhaps there are no easy answers. But we should still take the time to understand the millstone that hangs around our collective necks. Perhaps within the problem is a solution. So what are the forces at work? What is the source of power that positions the Mullahs to be such a large threat?

Iran's economy is a basket case. The ruling party has eviscerated productivity, employment, and consumer power, all while destroying personal freedom, and buying every weapon the Russians and Chinese can deliver. The Islamic Republic of Iran represents the cutting edge for the newly petrodollar-invigorated Islam. This energy exporter/arms importer is not popular at home, but its rulers couldn't care less. Iran is as far from a democracy as a country can get. No wonder it is adored by the ex-Soviets, and regional dictator-wannabes like Hugo Chavez.

But Iran is no ordinary tyranny. It has a special zeal that gives it an edge: Islam. Iran is ruled by the mullahs, who are zealously determined to complete their Allah-appointed task of ending the world of "Dar-ul-Harb"-the non-Muslim world to be warred upon-and establishing the "Dar-ul-Solh," or "Dar-ul-Salam"-the Muslim world of the Ummeh under the rule of the "Mahdi." If achieving this aim hinges on the conflagration of a Third World War, the mullahs are more than eager to make it happen. This is their self-proclaimed destiny.

Karl Marx once said derisively that "religion is the opiate of the people." If so, the militant Islam of Iran is more like crack cocaine than opium. Islam is the foundation for the Iranian theocracy's ideology of hate and destruction, but it is not the only force propelling it. Therefore, do not dismiss these vicious destroyers as mere "religious fanatics," therefore harmless old cranks who are disconnected to reality, soon to be replaced by sane moderates. They are nowhere near the point of being forced out by a natural revolution. They know what they are doing, and they are playing a very long game of chess.

Likewise do not doubt their steadfastness to their cause even if it means their own annihilation. If invoking catastrophe will compel their precious Mahdi's coming, their sentiment is "bring it on." We should rid ourselves of the "happy talk" we tranquilize ourselves with by reasoning that these doddering old-world religious fools may be mischievous, but they could never do real harm. Oh, sure, they might be arming some Iraqi Shiites, killing a few US soldiers, providing a little support for Hizbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine-but they have no global destructive capacity. After all, we pacify ourselves that we're not exactly talking about criminal masterminds like Hitler. Or are we?

Such optimistic self-delusions fully misunderstand the evil genius of the Mullahs. The mullahs' method of staying in power relies heavily on oil for arms... and arms for power. They have a sizable but otherwise insufficient cadre of true-believing Shiites, but popular support is not needed in their situation. To remain in power, their apparatus relies on "preventive" measures. They don't bother much with due process of law. Their "revolutionary guard" dispenses with the "due" and gets right to the "process." On the slightest suspicion, they arrest, convict and execute. They let Allah in the next world take the time to determine the person's guilt or innocence.

Presently, the Mullahs have been doing all they can to imprison and kill with impunity the internal opposition, and want the rest of the world to keep its nose out of their "family" business. Executions in Iran have skyrocketed.

This bunch of miscreants has the full support of Syria, Venezuela, and Russia. They have enthusiastic support from many terrorist organizations in the region and drug-running organizations worldwide. They have tacit support from China, Cuba, and France because the power structures of these countries resent the USA, and Iran is the leader in the expression of threats against the US "superpower." The Mullahs receive relatively little criticism from semi-socialist democracies like Western Europe and Canada who seem obsessed with anti-Bush, anti-US diatribes. Certainly the UN could care less about their bomb-building, and would be holding "talks" after the first detonation because "everybody knows war never solved anything." The Mullahs have nothing but support and few distractions. They're not going anywhere without a very big push.

The mullahs have their job to do on God's earth: to cleanse it of all infidels. When one has a tall order like that to fill, he can't be bothered with the tedious due process the Western democracies "waste" so much time and resources on.

But these high priests of Iran are not exactly living up to their brand. The mullah mafia has a great scam going. They promise the ignorant Islamic devotees the phony ‘paradise' of afterlife while they themselves enjoy their paradise of women, wealth and wine on this earth. They are unraveled in duplicity and heartlessness. So in nearly perfect emulation of Muhammad and his leadership 1400 years ago, the pious Mullahs go about plotting earthly destruction as they enrich themselves and enjoy earthly pleasures on the backs of their people. Nice work, if you can get it.

Lest you think these men should at least be admired for their self discipline and abstention from personal sins, know that a sizable chunk of the mullahs are heavy opium smokers. No one can prove it, of course, but I don't doubt it. In that land, opium smoking is still very popular with people who can afford the fruit of the Poppy. It is the Muslim's alcohol. Although its use is prohibited by law, with stiff penalties on the books, the use of opium continues and has become more endemic than ever under the mullahs' rule. This is in part because many of the mullahs as well as the law-enforcement officials are users and many officials make a personal fortune by getting their cuts from the traffickers. Opium is the drug of choice in the countryside, and heroin is primarily used by the more affluent city dwellers. Moreover, this is the drug that is used to calm the restless people. And don't think that a little of their stash doesn't make its way to the west.

The mullahs take pleasure and pride in their lavish lifestyle and power, and they want to bequeath it to their children, not to the people of Iran. So they assure their minions that Allah does not approve of the anti-Islamic practice of democracy, an invention of "western devils." Be sure to remember that these crafty, evil men are also long-term planners. They have messianic plans to rule the world some day. And with their lifestyle, they can have their cake and eat it too: leisure, power, and destruction, insulated from the corrective forces of the political marketplace.

The mullahs are superb practitioners of the art of making a deal. In this practice, like in the game of poker, much depends on how one plays their hand. In the game of deal-making, beating around the bush is a standard operating procedure. They know that weak-willed Westerners feel productive when they "talk," and engage in "negotiations." These activities do nothing; but then again, accomplishing anything other than advancing their own careers and generating an undeserved sense of self-importance is never the goal of careerist diplomats.

As for the "Great Satan," going after the mullahs seems completely out of the question. We have no stomach for it; the Ayatollahs know it. Even Bush's most loyal sidekick, ex-UK PM Tony Blair, was opposed to it. I hope that the Iraq misadventure has taught them an old lesson they seem to have had difficulty learning: it is a terrible mistake to go half way across the world and invade a country, unless you are able and willing to bulldoze the whole thing from one end to the other, with all the people bar none buried under the rubble.

The reason this rule is so important for us to learn is that having and displaying overwhelming power usually means you will not have to use it. But because the West has forgotten how to overwhelm the enemy, the war of attrition persists, and the people of the West become disheartened. They can't even interrogate presumed terrorists; they have to send them to Egypt to get the job done!

It's no wonder that recent military undertakings have been by-and-large busts- in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and even Afghanistan. This same policy of weakness has been successfully replicated in Israel, where the West ties Israeli hands behind their back so they don't "over-react" to missiles hitting their towns and cities, tunnels dug under their borders, and soldiers being captured by terrorists! The Mullahs know this game very, very well. They persist, and we pretend the worst can't happen. Whose opiate is the more effective, theirs or ours?

In the meantime, Iran's illegitimate regime will, with ever greater peace of mind, pursue their quest for the nuclear bomb, by hook or by crook, and the mullahs of mass destruction will keep the corrupt, yawning, toothless UN "watchdog" content and distracted by throwing it a bone or two from time to time. Eventually, these suicidal, homicidal followers of Muhammad will have their WMD. In time, they will use it. Future historians will ask: how could the entire world have seen it coming and done nothing about it? What kind of opiate were these people on?

Breakout from Islam's mental prison
The Australian

by Janet Albrechtsen

I AM sitting in a small book-lined room in Sydney's eastern suburbs with a petite woman in her late 40s dressed in a neat suit and sensible shoes.

Can this be the woman recently described as an "international sensation"? The woman who drove an American rabbi to publicly accuse her of being "Islam's Ann Coulter"? Meet Wafa Sultan...

Last year, the Syrian-born psychiatrist, who has lived in the US for almost 20 years, catapulted herself into the centre of the critical issue of our time: how will Islam embrace modernity? She entered the battle of ideas in a fiery debate with an Islamic scholar on Al Jazeera television when she criticised Islam for its backwardness, for shunning knowledge and progress, for propagating a "mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages".

One question not often asked is why a growing number of Muslim women are speaking out, demanding a reformation of Islam. And the next question is why these brave women are not hailed as heroes and champions by Western leaders at the highest levels...

Sultan spoke to The Australian about her life...

"I remember hearing as an eight-year-old girl that a woman is nothing but shame. Her marriage will cover up one-tenth of her shame and her grave will cover up the rest of it. Can you imagine, at eight, being consumed by shame just because you are female?".

Many find Sultan's message too confrontational. Her friends have asked her to soften her words. But she refuses, arguing that her experience as an Arab Muslim woman needs to be exposed...

"In my writing, I always compare my life in Syria and my life in America, and I let my readers reach a conclusion ...

"Look at any Islamic country. Tell me what you see. Poverty, backwardness, oppression, dictatorship, miserable lives...

Why the cultural linchpin war MUST be won

The Making of a Monster: A Chilling True Story
     By Rich Carroll

Osman Maquati is a 22-year-old Pakistani who was raised in upper-class
London. He speaks with a British accent. His articulate speech defies his
outward appearance; a long beard and the clothing of an Afghan peasant.

At the age of 17, Osman, along with dozens of other "good Muslim boys",
was recruited by Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, London's most outspoken
radical Islamic leader. Mohammed fronts the organization www.SAKINA.org., using
"peace" to camouflage their purpose, and freely claims to have recruited and
sent into training over 2,000 terrorists.

Osman Maquati would board a British Airways 747 before his 20th birthday
and fly to New York City. There, he was detained by U.S. Customs officials,
questioned for hours then released.  He would be released because an ACLU
attorney would scream that his "civil rights" were being violated. Osman and
four others, would then fly, train, and bus from New York in a circle over the
next week to Memphis and Atlanta and finally wind up at a “survivalist” camp in
Texas. There, Osman and seventy-five other “recruits” would train in a remote
camp for seven weeks. The instructors who would teach Osman and his fellow
terrorists the art of using weapons and explosives were former Navy SEAL and
U.S. and British Special Forces “mercenaries” who will train anyone for CASH.

Osman will tell you he received the “best”, most comprehensive, training in
Texas. The United States is perfect to train because there are remote areas, the
gun laws are lax, and we have literally thousands of “camps” and
“mercenaries” who enjoy training people to kill for a price.  Americans are also
too concerned with tolerance to dare question the presence of a Muslim in their
community.  The “fee” to cover Osman's training, and the seventy-five other
terrorists, was paid in cash by Omar Bakri Mohammed. Omar, of course,
transferred the funds he had received from Osama Bin Laden. This type of
“training” has gone on within the boundaries of our nation for many years.
Literally thousands of now “terrorist experts” received the best training in the
world in Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, and other states that allow
businesses of this sort.

Completing his seven-week intensive course in Texas, Osman would fly to New
York, then to London, and on to Afghanistan and Pakistan for additional
training in everything from how to make explosives to operating a tank. At the
end of his two months total training, Osman would join fellow Islamic soldiers
in the region of Kashmir to fight along side Pakistan soldiers against the army
of India.

Osman is prepared to die for the cause of jihad.  He is Muslim first.  A young
man who was raised in affluence not in his native land of Pakistan but in fine
London surroundings is now a well trained combat veteran of the Islamic
movement for global dominance by Allah. He is a soft spoken, well educated,
and thought of as "peaceful" by his old British and American friends . He
thanks former U.S. military personnel and the State of Texas for his training.
This "nice guy" could blend into your place of employment or neighborhood,
smile and wave, and plot your demise as coldly as you would dispatch a pesky
housefly.

Are these the kind of people you want to give special privileges?  Do they use
our solicitousness to their advantage by suing us dozens of times daily in our
own country for "offending" them?  A cult which commandeers jetliners filled
with innocent, unsuspecting citizens, and fly's them into buildings with
innocent, unsuspecting citizens are not seeking "justice".  Muslims are not
"religious" in any sense that can be accepted by civilized people, but rather a
shadowy, totalitarian guided cult driven to control our entire planet.  We can
no longer afford to appease, ignore, negotiate with or support these evil
people.

The next time you want to call any Muslim "peaceful", ask yourself if you
would remain part of any group or organization who slaughtered non believers
in 44 countries around the globe.

The Malahi family from the Bedouin town of Rahat only wanted to spend a day of fun at the Ofakim swimming pool on Sunday. After the father paid the entry fee and the three children were about to jump into the water, the pool owner told them that they would not be able to enter the place before the mother removes her veil.

For the children of the Malahi family – 3-year-old Yakim, 7-year-old Muhammad and 10-year-old Eitam – this was the first day this summer they were about to spend at the swimming pool in the southern town of Ofakim.

The father, Kayed Malahi, a teacher, told Ynet, "All we wanted was to spend the day at the Ofakim pool, which is the closest one to our town of Rahat."

The pool owner, Zion Peretz, tried to convince the family members to remove the mother's veil, but Kayed refused to be humiliated and discriminated against.

"As we drove home, two of the children could not stop crying," he said.

'I decided not to allow Bedouins in this year'

Talking to Ynet, Peretz explained, "Following the damages I suffered last year, such as broken chairs and harassment by the other bathers, I decided not to allow Bedouins to enter the pool this year. However, I leave the pool open for them after the hours of activity, starting at 5 pm."

When the Malahi family arrived, he said, the mother was asked to remove her veil in order "not to cause the other bathers to flee."

According to Peretz, his clients refuse to spend time at the pool along with their Bedouin neighbors. "I am caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea. I am not here to fight; I only want to run a swimming pool. I respect them, but I have a reason from not letting them enter."

Why religious headdress goes hand in hand with violence and extremism

Evidentally the Jewish community is afraid to name it's attackers.

Baseball bat attack stuns Jewish community
Nine News Australia

Melbourne's Jewish community has expressed outrage after a young man became the victim of a brutal anti-Semitic baseball bat attack.

Ephraim Manshari, 17, had finished his shift and was sitting outside Mister Glicks takeaway with a friend in Balaclava on Saturday night when he saw a man he believed was a Sikh running past.

One of the men then crossed the road and confronted Mr Manshari and his friend, asking them if they wanted to fight.

Mr Manshari said although he tried to defuse the situation, the men quickly became violent.

"I got up out of my chair and dialled 000, then he grabbed the chair I was sitting in and started smashing (shop) windows; he turned round to my friend and punched him in the face, then (the attacker's) friend ran from across the road and started smashing windows as well," he said.

The men ran off before police arrived, but they returned 45 minutes later armed with baseball bats.

Mr Manshari's friend Alon Tam, 17, who had come from his nearby home after hearing about the first attack, was viciously beaten at the scene.

"They pulled out two baseball bats and started whacking me from either side calling me a f---ing Jew," Mr Tam said.

The two men ran off again before police returned.

The incident occurred in the south-east suburb Balaclava on Carlisle Street, near the corner of Orange Grove, about midnight.

A spokesman for the Jewish Community Council and the B'nai B'rith Anti-Defamation Council condemned the "senseless" attack.

"We are outraged at this violent anti-semitic attack which was perpetrated in the heart of the Jewish community … Members of the Jewish community should not be subjected to these sorts of attacks under any circumstances," the spokesman said in a joint statement.

Mr Tam, who will have X-rays today, said violent racist attacks were commonplace in the area.

"I guess when you're living in this area, most people see it as a thing you get used to and you just move on. Anything that can't kill you can only make you stronger," he said.

"A lot of people don't go to the police because some people think of it as normal and people have to realise that it's not."

Horrible cultural Neville Chamberlain type appeasement

Cleansing the ACLU - Michigan and the case of Muslim footbaths
OpinionJournal.com

The latest battle of religion in the public square is unfolding in Dearborn, Michigan, a city with one of the highest Muslim populations in the country. At the University of Michigan's local campus, administrators have recently refitted several school bathrooms to include small footbaths in the corner--an accommodation for Muslim students who must perform ritual washing as part of their daily observance. The issue has more than a few of the usual suspects trying to explain their way out of their usual positions on the separation of church and state.

The Detroit chapter of the ACLU has scrambled to find a way to recuse itself from the matter, claiming that the footbaths qualify as secular since they could be used by non-Muslims, and therefore don't cross the group's usual bright church-state line. Further, the ACLU explains, the university's decision to take on the $25,000 expense was motivated primarily "by health and safety" because some students didn't like washing their hands in the sinks after others students had washed their feet. If that hadn't been the case, the group says this religious accommodation would surely have merited greater investigation and criticism.

Brilliant cultural linchpin - will moderate all who fall under it's ruling

German State Bans "Grace Kelly" Hijab
Islam Online.net

DUESSELDORF, Germany — A court in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, has ruled that a compromise head cover used by a Muslim teacher still violates the hijab ban, Deutsche Welle reported on Wednesday, August 15. Maryam Brigitte Weiss, a state school teacher since 1980, had asked a court in the northwestern city of Duesseldorf to allow her to wear a headscarf tied in a loose knot at the base of the neck, leaving the hair showing at the front.

The woman, who embraced Islam in the early 1990s, had argued that such a head cover was a "fashion accessory" similar to the one worn by American movie star Grace Kelly in the 1955 film "To Catch a Thief".

However, the court did not accept her argument that the Kelly-styled cover was not the traditional Islamic hijab.

The judge said the proposed head cover was a religious statement and therefore against state rules.

Islam sees hijab as an obligatory code of dress, not a religious symbol displaying one’s affiliations.

It should cover the whole body except face and hands, be loose-fitting and not transparent or revealing.

Witch Hunt

Weiss, a board member of the Central Council of Muslims, criticized the new ruling.

"This is a witch hunt," she told Reuters after the court session.

"This ruling stigmatizes educated Muslim women and stops them from pursuing a career and therefore also excludes them from society."

Weiss vowed to appeal the verdict.

The decision follows a similar ruling by a court in the southern, mainly Catholic state of Bavaria which upheld its ban in January.

Eight of Germany's 16 states have banned teachers from wearing hijab, a policy Muslim groups say discriminates against them.

On Wednesday, a court in the western German state of Hesse will hold a hearing on a ban on civil servants wearing hijab at work, but a decision will take several months.

Islam comes third in Germany after Protestant and Catholic Christianity.

There are some 3.5 million Muslims in Germany, two thirds of whom are of Turkish origin.

The North Rhine-Westphalia state alone is home to almost a third of the sizable Muslim minority.

Hijab has become a hot political issue in several European states since France banned it in state schools and public institutions in 2004.

True story of the culture in our communities

Today, it is highly probable that tens of thousands of Islamic loonies are in this country, just waiting for the word to kill "infidels". That means you, my friend, and ALL Americans, (including Liberals!).

Think that can't happen? In the 90's, I used a local printer; an Iranian immigrant who became a naturalized U.S. citizen. His work was excellent, and over the years I got to know him and his family. We became friends and often shared meals and had deep political and religious discussions.
One day, I discovered he had stopped working, (in mid-job!), and was packing to go to England. He was literally walking away from his shop and his family!!! Why? Because an Ayatollah (in Iran) had ordered a Jihad on a British writer (Salmon Rushdie... remember him?) and Ahmed was going to kill him!
I'm not joking. He very unemotionally told me that the Ayatollah spoke for Allah, thus he, and ALL true believers, were required to carry out the order.
"So, my friend," I joked. "If it was my name the Ayatollah wanted dead, would you kill me?" He didn't hesitate or show any remorse when he replied, "Of course." *

To these people, 911 was hardly a warm-up exercise. Their Holy war with us started prior to the 70's, when they blew up the Marine Barracks in Beirut. By their own words, their own Elementary School books, their own religious training documents, they are trained from birth to eagerly fight us to the death.

In their perverse thinking, it doesn't matter whether we die or they die trying to kill us. They get "Heavenly Rewards" just for the effort, so... either way, they win.

In my opinion, if we don't use every means available to fight them, it will be the end of civilization, as we know it, and will cast human development back into the dark ages.

* Post Script - 2007: Ahmed indeed left his wife and children (unsupported), traveled to London and (I heard) died in an attempt to carry out his "holy mission". How many more members of Allah's Army are here, awaiting orders to kill...us ? And this fall, you want more Liberals in Congress... and in the White House? Say goodbye to your grandkids.

Great cultural assimilation move - hope they don't give in

PRINCIPAL NOT KOSHER: MUSLIM
By CHUCK BENNETT
August 16, 2007 -- The Department of Education "spit" in the face of Arabs with the appointment of a Jewish woman as principal of the city's new Arabic-themed school, a Muslim activist said yesterday.

"It doesn't make any sense," Zein Rimawi said of the appointment of Danielle Salzberg.

"It's like somebody spit in our face as Arabs," said Rimawi, a founder of the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and an organizer with the Arab Muslim American Federation.

"They didn't hire an Arab principal [for] a Chinese school. It doesn't make any sense.

"This is no respect to our community. Where is the respect?" he asked.

Salzberg is an Orthodox Jew who had worked to develop the curriculum at the Khalil Gibran International Academy.

Her predecessor, Debbie Almontaser, a devout Muslim and fluent Arabic speaker, quit under pressure last Friday after a furor over her comments to The Post defending "Intifada NYC" T-shirts to which her organization was linked.

Why it's so important to ban the trappings of extremism all over the West

NYP: HOW TERROR GROWS AT HOME

...Al Qaeda, the report notes, "has provided the inspiration for homegrown radicalization and terrorism."...

All of which makes the task of identifying terrorists- before they act- enormously difficult....

Such an understanding-based on the case histories of terrorists in about a dozen plots around the world since 9/11- will give law-enforcement officials a better chance to intervene early.

The report cites four key phases:

* It begins with individuals who may be inclined to latch onto "radical thought" who "usually live, work, play and pray" within ethnic Muslim enclaves.

* Then, exposure to Salafi Islam (the most severe strain of Sunni belief), and a gravitation toward those who embrace it.

* Next is "indoctrination"- in which "an individual... wholly adopts jihadi-Salafi ideology" and concludes that action- "militant jihad"- is required.

* Finally, planning, preparing and executing a terrorist plot.

Excerpts from the report, on the opposite page, offer details. But among some of the more alarming findings:

* Jihadi ideology "is proliferating" in the West "at a logarithmic rate."

* "Radicalization incubators"- mosques, cafes, bookstores, "cab-driver hangouts," non-government organizations, prisons, hookah (water pipe) bars, student groups, the Internet- are "critically important" to the process.

* Given the difficulty in spotting and disrupting attacks, it's essential to intervene early.

Bottom line: Intelligence- research, tips from the public, surveillance and other methods- is key. Yet that's precisely what institutions like the Times reflexively oppose.

The paper has worked feverishly to undermine national-security programs, like wiretapping terrorist phone calls. Closer to home, it's waged a furious campaign to stop the NYPD from collecting information to thwart attacks.

The Times has run countless "news" stories slamming NYPD intelligence operations. And it joined in a recent lawsuit to force police brass to turn over documents that could reveal critical methods in those operations, thus undermining them....

Appease extremism, you never ever get less extremism - exactly the opposite of what should be done

Backlash Overdue

In an e-mail "to all senior managers, giving guidance on religious tolerance," the Scotsman said Monday, the NHS Equality and Diversity Officer — a title that alone tells a story — has asked that staff members refrain from eating at their desks, forgo working lunches and make sure that food trolleys are not left in areas where Muslims work.

Why? It will soon be Ramadan, an Islamic observance beginning in September during which Muslims fast for 30 days.

We have a hard time imagining the NHS or any other European government agency carving out special dispensations for Christians who don't eat meat on Fridays or fast during Lent.

What about prayer time for Christians in this nominal Christian nation? Muslims, whose feelings are being protected as if they are an endangered species, have been granted breaks to pray.

Appease the trappings of extremism, you never get less extremism, you always always always get MORE EXTREMISM!

Appease the trappings of extremism, you never get less extremism, you always always always get MORE EXTREMISM!

Scottish Shari'a Watch

Doctors and health workers in Scotland have been banned from eating lunch at their desks during the Ramadan fast.

Willful blindness has now become standard practice in cases like this; the officials who instituted the ban openly admit they did it out of fear, even while parroting the usual tolerance-speak.

DOCTORS and health workers have been banned from eating lunch at their desks - in case it offends their Muslim colleagues.

Health chiefs believe the sight of food will upset Muslim workers when they are celebrating the religious festival Ramadan. The lunch trolley is also to be wheeled out of bounds as the 30-day fast begins next month. ...

The new guidance comes in the wake of the failed terror attacks on Glasgow and the death of suspect Kafeel Ahmed, 27. Health chiefs in Lothian and Glasgow will give all employees time off to pray and to celebrate Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan.

But Greater Glasgow and Clyde as well as Lothian NHS boards also issued the advice, warning workers not to take working lunches, and said all vending machines should be removed from areas where Muslims work.

Behind this latest one-way gesture of appeasement: another Islamic advocacy group.

The guidance, which was sent round many organisations, was produced by Glasgow consultancy Meem, which advises on Muslim issues and counts the Scottish Parliament among its clients.

Na’eem Raza, a senior consultant with the firm, said he was thrilled that the health boards had formally adopted the guidance.

He added: “The idea is to get faith in the workplace out in the open. In the current climate, people need to understand where communities are coming from and what people are feeling. After the Glasgow attack this is very important. This is about educating people and making them more aware and more confident when dealing with issues surrounding the Muslim community. People have stopped talking over the garden fence and we need to break down the barriers so that people can talk comfortably to each other. It would never stir up resentment. Faith is an important issue. Why not have guidance on all of the issues that affect us, including different faiths?”

Health chiefs defended their use of the guidance and said it was important to promote a positive and tolerant culture at work.

A Bangladeshi man died of fright after being arrested by Saudi Arabia's controversial religious police for washing a car instead of praying

Religious accomodations and appeasements will only enable more and more extremism until America has out-of-control muslim hellholes like those in France and other -parts of Europe (where the liberals have appeased for decades).

America is where Europe was 20 years ago. WAKE UP, AMERICA AND BAN RELIGIOUS TRAPPINGS

Man dies of fright in Saudi vice police custody: report

RIYADH (AFP) - A Bangladeshi man died of fright after being arrested by Saudi Arabia's controversial religious police for washing a car instead of praying, a local newspaper reported on Sunday.

The unnamed man died last week in the holy city of Medina after being detained by members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Al-Jazirah reported.

The Arabic daily said the man "convulsed in fear after he was arrested, leading to a drop in his blood pressure and causing his death."

The man was arrested by members of the commission, commonly known as the Muttawa, for washing a car during a time of day when he should have been at prayer, the paper said.

The Muttawa enforce a strict Islamic moral code in the ultra-conservative kingdom, and are increasingly being criticised by the public for perceived abuses.

The Muttawa beat a group of Iraqi pilgrims holding British and US citizenship in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, a Saudi Shiite news website said on August 6.

The Shiite news website rasid.net said the Muttawa beat the pilgrims with sticks after accusing them of being "infidels" as they circled the holy Kaaba stone at the Grand Mosque, Islam's holiest site.

The head of the Muttawa, Ibrahim al-Ghaith, said the Bangladeshi man "fainted" while being transported in a vehicle and that doctors found no signs of "assault or torture" on his body, Al-Watan newspaper reported.

Three commission members and policeman who witnessed the incident were questioned before being completely exonerated, it added.

Complaints about excesses attributed to the 5,000-strong force have become increasingly common in the local press in recent months.

The English-language daily Arab News reported last week that a Nigerian convert to Islam was jailed in Riyadh after he helped a sick 63-year-old woman and was then accused by the religious police of immoral behaviour.

Earlier this month, a court acquitted three members of the Muttawa and a policeman over the death of a man in their custody in the northwestern city of Tabuk. He too had been accused of associating with a woman who was not a relative.

The interior ministry issued a decree in May 2006 that aimed to rein in the Muttawa by requiring them not to interrogate detained suspects, as they had previously done, but to hand them over to the regular police instead.

However, Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz last month defended the Muttawa, accusing journalists of exaggerating recent abuse allegations.

Escaping islamism - why the cultural trappings of extremism must not be appeased

The Sunday Times

by Shiraz Maher

For almost four years I was on the front line of British Islamism serving as a regional officer in northeast England for Hizb ut-Tahrir, an extremist group committed to the creation of a puritanical caliphate. Since leaving in 2005, I’ve been concerned at just how easy it was for me to join a radical Islamist movement — and why there was hardly any support available when I decided to leave.

Hizb was a large family in many ways: a group offering social support, comradeship, a sense of purpose and validation. At 21, it was intoxicating to me.

I embraced my new Islamist identity and family with eagerness. Islamism transcends cultural norms, so it not only prompted me to reject my British identity but also my ethnic South Asian background. I was neither eastern, nor western; I was a Muslim, a part of the global ummah, where identity is defined through the fraternity of faith.

Islamists insist this identity is not racist because Islam welcomes people of all colours, ethnicities and backgrounds. That was true, but our world view was still horribly bipolar. We didn’t distinguish on the basis of colour, but on creed. The world was simply divided into believers and nonbelievers. It was a reality that came back to haunt me last month when I realised that Bilal Abdullah and Kafeel Ahmed, the two men linked with the alleged plot to attack London and Glasgow, were among my closest friends when I studied at Cambridge University.

My time in Cambridge was a turning point. I was studying for a doctorate, researching the development of Islamic political thought in late colonial India, which proved to be my saviour. My research caused me to find marked points of rupture in both the historical and theological narrative of what the Hizb was having me believe. Previous generations had failed, the Hizb told me, to apply Islam to the reality of a changed and changing world in the early 20th century. What I found could not have been further from this.

Throughout my thesis I was able to survey a wide range of Muslim opinion across the Indian subcontinent, among whom Abul Kalam Azad was a leading figure. He explained how Islam obliged Muslims to create a harmonious society. He was adept at offering lucid explanations from the texts of the Koran to show a secular state was validated through Islam.

Failing to accommodate diversity showed a neglect of the Koran’s opening chapter, al-Fatiha, which emphasises tolerance and mercy. Focusing on division rather than common humanity violated God’s unity, said Azad, who insisted in Tarjuman that: “The unity of man is the primary aim of religion.”

When independence came in 1947, Azad resisted the creation of Pakistan. Forming an exclusionary political identity in this way was against the essence of Islam.

My findings suffocated me. Far from being emancipated by my discovery, I fell into a spiral of confusion. I had sacrificed all my friends and family for a cause. Had it all been in vain? I felt overwhelmed by feelings of loneliness. And herein lies the problem. There was nowhere for me to turn.

I didn’t want to take my concerns to the Hizb because I knew what their response would be. If I wasn’t bullied back into action, I’d be made to feel guilty for leaving. I knew the protocol. When I embraced Hizb ut-Tahrir and the Islamist way of life there was an established network offering social support and validation. Shedding my old life was easy because I was absorbed by an alternative and more self-assured culture.

By the start of 2005 mentally I was no longer an Islamist. But there was no denying that emotionally I just didn’t have the courage to leave the Hizb. Then my nightmare was realised. I watched as London came under attack on July 7, 2005, by four British Muslims who claimed 52 innocent lives. This was the cauldron of Islamist hate boiling over.

When I resigned from Hizb ut-Tahrir, the social network that had once so warmly embraced me turned bitterly cold and confrontational. The inward love was replaced by the external hate.

Aged 24, I had to rebuild my life, almost entirely from scratch. Traditionally, it is at university that you forge your most enduring and meaningful friendships. Overnight, mine disappeared.

Then came hope. Over recent months I have spoken at length with Ed Husain, author of The Islamist, who was also in the ranks of the Hizb once. It was the revelation I was waiting for. When I met him, Ed’s first words, breaking their way through a beaming smile, were: “It feels like I’ve known you for years.” Immediately our stories resonated with remarkable familiarity. We had both experienced the same feelings of isolation and desperation before we plucked up the courage to leave.

Finally, I was not alone. Like old war veterans we shared stories, discussed what made us leave and what the future held. Having been a senior member in the Hizb I know there are scores of others with similar concerns. Some of them have also left and are coming together to form a united front against Islamism. They are not irreligious sell-outs, agents or part of some Judeo-Christian cult committed to the downfall of Islam, as groups like the Hizb would like to suggest. They are simply former Islamists who have rejected a particular political ideology, while remaining committed to their Muslim faith.

The significance of this should not be underestimated. When I first left, I emphasised that the challenges of Islamist extremism could never be overcome until the Muslim community formulated its own response. Since meeting Ed and becoming aware of the emerging network of other former members, many of them also holding a senior rank at one time, I was reassured. An influential figure still within the movement, but who is close to leaving, told me and Ed recently, “Don’t worry, your message is being heard.”

The landscape in the Muslim community is changing. Just as the divisive message of political Islam has been spread by young men across Britain, there is now a growing number of former activists leading the charge against the ideas that we once helped to promote. I only hope that our testimonies will encourage those still within Islamist movements to find the moral courage to leave.
