In his recent speech criticizing the GOP's so-called southern strategy, RNC Chairman Michael Steele scored big points, for the other team. In this classic speech, Abraham Lincoln condemned the pro-slavery policies of the Democratic Party. The founders of our Grand Old Party knew to call Democrats 'slave-ocrats.' And another Republican, Robert Ingersoll, observed: "Every man that loved slavery more than liberty was a Democrat." One of Lincoln's friends, Rep. Owen Lovejoy (R-IL), had this to say:

"The principle of enslaving human beings because they are inferior, is this: If a man is a cripple, trip him up; if he is old and weak, and bowed with the weight of years, strike him, for he cannot strike back; if idiotic, take advantage of him; and if a child, deceive him. This, sir, this is the doctrine of Democrats and the doctrine of devils as well, and there is no place in the universe outside the five points of hell and the Democratic Party where the practice and prevalence of such doctrines would not be a disgrace."

Very definitely, slavery was a southern strategy of the Democratic Party.

George Wallace, who stood in the schoolhouse door to keep out African-Americans, was a Democrat. Gov. Orval Faubus, who tried to prevent court-ordered desegregation of Little Rock public schools, was a Democrat. Bull Connor, whose police attacked African-Americans schoolchildren with dogs and high- pressure hoses, was the Democratic Party's National Committeeman for Alabama.

In 1956, nineteen Democrat U.S. Senators and seventy-five Democrat U.S. Representatives (and, alas, two Republicans) signed the Southern Manifesto, criticizing the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision that struck down racial segregation in public schools.

Absolutely, segregation was a southern strategy of the Democratic Party.

When will DNC Chairman Tim Kaine apologize for his party's southern strategy? A true apology includes accepting culpability, not just expressing sorrow or regret. To be meaningful, this apology should be from Democrats only, as it wasn't Republicans who owned slaves and lynched African-Americans and assassinated a congressman and imposed segregation. Children Undeterred by Attacks, Want Education

School children dream of finishing their education despite bomb attacks.

PESHAWAR, Apr 27, 2010 (IPS) - "I don’t feel any fear. My parents do. They instruct me almost every day to stay away from crowded places," said Afaq Ali, a Grade 1 student in this capital city of the militancy-wracked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.

Undeterred by an explosion at the Police Public School on Apr. 19, he said no one could stop him from going to school. "Militants (NOT MILITANTS, 100% MUSLIM DEATH SQUADS OF VACANT EYED, SEX CRAZED, HATE CRAZED ZOMBIES) must be ashamed of targeting children," Ali said. The (100% MUSLIM) militant attack killed one student and wounded 10 others.

Not too far from the Police Public School is the University Public School (UPS), where most of the students remain optimistic that the Taliban forces could still be defeated through education.

"When we get education, we can spread the light and do away with the widespread ignorance in our society," declared Kashif Shah, a Grade 3 student at UPS.

In 2001 the Taliban came to the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) after they were forced to flee Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, by the U.S.- led forces. From there they began sneaking into the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – which until recently was known as the North-West Frontier Province – and started targeting schools and commercial establishments such as CD and music shops.

FATA lies between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the neighbouring country of Afghanistan.

In Swat alone – an administrative district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – the Taliban destroyed a total of 188 girls’ schools and 97 boys between 2007 and March 2009, displacing some 500,000 students.

"Female education is against Islam. They (women and girls) are required to sit at home and not venture out," Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan, now in jail, told IPS in March 2009, when asked why girls’ schools were a prime target of his militant group.

"We are not bothered by the blasts. Our main aim is to get education at any cost. Our parents want us to get more education and become doctors," said Imran Ali, whose brother Jawad Ali also sustained injuries in the explosion at the Police Public School early last week just before its closure.

In January a suicide attack near a girls’ school at Lower Dir, one of the 24 districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed seven people.

Jamal Shah, a fifth grader in a government primary school in Lakaro in Mohmand Agency, recalled a similar incident in his school, which was blown up by alleged militants on Apr. 14.

"When we woke up, we received the bad news that our school had been blown up by militants," he said. "I went that same day to see my school," he said, notwithstanding his parents’ advice not to leave the house.

Now 500 students are holding classes amid the rubble of the devastated school, "because everyone wants education," 13-year-old Shah said. He expressed fears that he and his schoolmates would end up as laborers if they were uneducated.

His 50-year-old father, Anwar Shah, a mason, said, "My greatest desire is to provide better education for my child so he could live his life with ease."

"My only concern is the safety of my three children. I bring them to [and pick them up from] school every day," said Attaulh Khan, unmindful of the two- kilometre bicycle ride to and from the school.

Sardar Hussain Babak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education minister, has vowed to rebuild all the schools that have been destroyed by militants. "We will make every effort to educate the students," he said.

Still part of stepped up security measures in schools is sending students home in batches of two, at an interval of 15 minutes, said Bushra Ali of the University Model School (UMS). Otherwise, they tend to rush out of the school gate, he said.

Pervez Malik, who teaches at the Government Girls Primary School, said that the school was bombed on Mar. 13 by suspected terrorists. "The militants’ actions against innocent civilians have only served to deepen the students’ desire for education.

Twelve-year-old Gul Ghutai, a Grade 6 student at UMS who dreams of becoming a doctor "so she can serve her countrymen," said the Taliban have no right to kill. "Nobody except God has the authority to take human life," she said.

Yemen's most influential Islamic cleric vowed on Saturday to gather a "million" signatures to protest a draft law banning child brides, (CHILD RAPE) in an increasingly vocal showdown against the country's weak government which needs the support of powerful religious leaders to hold onto power.

Speaking at a conference at Iman University in the Yemeni capital San'a, al-Zindani called on the dozens of radical clerics and Islamic law students in the crowd to opposed the draft law.

Al-Zindani's calls against the ban have become increasingly strident ahead of an expected vote by Yemeni lawmakers next month on raising the marriage age to 17.

The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen, where a quarter of all females marry before they turn 15, according to a 2009 report by the country's Ministry of Social Affairs.

In the country's deeply tribal society, families prefer young brides because they are seen as more obedient and are expected to have more children. It is also difficult for poor families in impoverished Yemen (THIS IS NOT ABOUT POVERTY, THIS IS ABOUT CORRUPTION, POWER AND NEED TO CONTROL) to ignore bride-prices of hundreds of dollars.

MUSLIM tourists in France will be forbidden to wear the full-face veil along with French residents under the Government's plan to ban the garment in public places, a minister said today.

"When you arrive in France, you respect the laws in force .... Everyone will have to respect the laws in France. That's how it is," Nadine Morano, a junior minister for families, told the radio station France Info.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to France each year from the Middle East, according to estimates from the tourism ministry, and veiled women are a common sight in the luxury stores on Paris shopping boulevards.

Ms Morano said women breaching the ban would be fined but would not be unveiled "on the spot".

Ms Morano said the planned ban was in line with France's secular principles but also aimed to give "a message at international level" and would apply equally to visitors from abroad.

David Weigel, at The Washington Post, asked me to comment on Michael Steele's view of the so-called Southern Strategy.

Speaking at DePaul University on April 20, RNC Chairman Michael Steele urged Republican leaders to work with the Tea Parties. He has the right approach, to which I would add the fact, per my article on BigGovernment.com, that The Republican Party Began as a Tea Party Movement.

Steele then went on to say:

"We have lost sight of the historic, integral link between the party and African-Americans. This party was co-founded by blacks, among them Frederick Douglass. The Republican Party had a hand in forming the NAACP, and yet we have mistreated that relationship. People don't walk away from parties. Their parties walk away from them. For the last 40- plus years we had a 'Southern Strategy' that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South. Well, guess what happened in 1992, folks, 'Bubba' went back home to the Democratic Party and voted for Bill Clinton."

Chairman Steele makes an interesting point, but he is accepting as true the Democrat version of events. The theme of Back to Basics for the Republican Party is that celebrating our party's heritage is not just for minority outreach but for all Republicans to appreciate that the GOP has been a great force for good ever since being founded in 1854 to oppose the Democrats' pro-slavery, anti-freedom agenda. I drew on that record of achievement in writing the historical information on the RNC website, also posted as Heroes and Heroics.

Chairman Steele's analysis of the so-called "southern strategy" is a bit too simplistic and could use some historical context. Since the end of Reconstruction the GOP scarcely existed in most of the South until the 1950s. In fact, in 1952 the Republican Party was so weak there that Dwight Eisenhower had to rely on "Veterans for Eisenhower" organizations to conduct much of his campaign in the region.

So firm was the Democrat grip on the white southern vote that prior to Richard Nixon's 1960 campaign, no Republican presidential candidate had ever done much campaigning in the South. That year he broke new ground by deciding to campaign in every state. Prior to legislative advances of the civil rights movement - initiated by the GOP's 1957 and 1960 Civil Rights Acts - few African-Americans could vote in the Democrat-controlled South. As a result, Nixon's campaigning in southern states was perforce directed toward the people who could vote there, mostly the whites.

Regarding his decision to campaign in the South as some kind of cynical ploy is to ignore Nixon's civil rights achievements while serving as Eisenhower's vice president. He was instrumental in breaking the Democrat filibuster against the 1957 Civil Rights Act and called for racial integration of public schools long before John Kennedy or Lyndon Johnson did.

Malmö: Anti-Islam party posters show Muhammad naked

French blog Bivouac-ID posted a picture of the poster. The caption reads "Mohammed with wife, he's 53, she's 9. Is this the type of marriage we want to see in Skåne?"


The anti-Islam Skåne Party put posters with cartoons in twenty different places in Malmö. The posters portray the prophet Muhammed naked with a 9 year old wife by his side. The posters have been reported to the police by both the police and at least one person. The reporters think it could be hate speech.

"There's no reason for that. We're attacking Islam, not people who believe in Islam. We consider Islam to be very dangerous and psyco-social infectious disease," said Carl P Herslow, head of the Skåne Party, who thinks the posters defend freedom of expression and the press. The party held seats in municipal councils in the past. In the 2006 elections the party got 1.8% of the votes and therefore dropped out. The party will run in the next elections.

On Tueday Björn Lagerbäck (FP) contacted Sydsvenskan. He heads the municipality's recently established Dialog Forum, where different groups in Malmö can convene to discuss "the values that divide and unite".

"The city of Malmö clearly opposes the posters. We appeal to all Muslim groups not to let themselves be provoked. The Skåne Party is a small, isolated sect," he said.

According to the Skåne Party, at least nine of the posters were vandalized since they were put out Monday. The party did not want to say who designed the cartoons.

Uppsala social workers forced the then 10-year-old girl to submit to the examination to see whether she had been subjected to genital mutilation (circumcision) while on a family holiday in Kenya in 2004. The girl was collected by police from school shortly after returning from a visit to relatives.

The girl's family took their case to the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) which ruled in 2007 that the social workers' suspicions constituted discrimination.

Discrimination Ombudsman Katri Linna concluded in her 2007 ruling that the suspicions "were based entirely on the fact that the parents have Somalian heritage."

The Freedom Defense Initiative (FDI) and Stop the Islamization of America (SIOA) today announced that Miami-Dade Transit is restoring bus advertisements in defense of religious freedom that had been taken down after an anti-free speech campaign by a Hamas-linked Islamic hate group.

The CBS Outdoor bus ad company restored the ads after Miami-Dade Transit bowed to a threatened lawsuit by its attorneys David Yerushalmi and Robert Muise (the latter of the Thomas More Law Center) on behalf of SIOA executive director Pamela Geller and associate director Robert Spencer for breach of contract and infringement of their First Amendment free speech rights.

The South Florida chapter of the Hamas-linked Islamic supremacist hate group Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) had pressured Miami-Dade Transit to drop SIOA's religious liberty ads, which offer aid to Muslims threatened for leaving Islam.

The SIOA ad at issue, which will now run on thirty buses, not just on the original 10 buses on which it ran originally in Miami-Dade County, stated: "Leaving Islam? Fatwa on your head? Family or community threatening you? Got questions? Get answers! RefugefromIslam.com."

[We] reject as un-Islamic any extremist interpretation that sanctions the killing of any individual because she decided to 'leave Islam.'"

Malik's statement is explicitly contradicted by the command of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam and supreme example of conduct for the Muslim: "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, then kill him." (Bukhari 9.84.57) Contrary to Malik's claim, all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence teach that a sane adult male who leaves Islam must be killed. In an appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Tuesday Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that illegal immigrants were intentionally causing car accidents along state freeways.

The subject came up when he defended the tough new Arizona immigration bill against the possibility of racial profiling.

McCain told Bill O’Reilly that while he’d be “very sorry” if a Hispanic person suffered the indignity of racial profiling, the law would punish illegal wrongdoers.

“It's the people whose homes and property are being violated,” he said. “It's the drive-by that -- the drivers of cars with illegals in it that are intentionally causing accidents on the freeway."

McCain mentioned Robert Krantz, an Arizona cattle rancher who was recently gunned down with his dog. Police believe his killer was an illegal immigrant.

“The state of Arizona is acting and doing what they feel they need to do in light of the fact that the federal government is not fulfilling its fundamental responsibility to secure our borders,” McCain told O’Reilly.

"Look, our border is not secured. Our citizens are not safe," he said.

White Supremacists, Counter-Protesters Face Off in LA

AP LOS ANGELES (April 17) -- A white supremacist group rallied against illegal immigration in downtown Los Angeles Saturday as hundreds of counter-protesters gathered to shout them down in a tense standoff that included several arrests, thrown rocks and police in riot gear.

Police officers stood between the white supremacists and counter-demonstrators on the south lawn of Los Angeles' City Hall, where about 50 members of the National Socialist Movement waved American flags and swastika banners for about an hour.

The white supremacists, many of them wearing flack helmets and black military fatigue uniforms, shouted "Sieg Heil" before each of their speakers took the podium to taunt counter-protesters with racial, anti-Semitic and misogynistic epithets.

"We will meet you head on," one of the white supremacists, whose name could not be made out over the fuzzy public address system, warned the crowd from behind several phalanxes of police in riot gear.

Members of the Detroit-based group said they picked the location for their rally because of Los Angeles' large immigrant population. They accused some of the immigrants of stealing jobs and committing crimes.

Group members also said they were reacting to the recent number of street marches across the country encouraging legislators to enact reform that includes amnesty for some illegal immigrants.

National Socialist Movement regional director Jeffrey Russell Hall announced that the group would begin backing political candidates who agreed with their anti-immigrant message.

But much of the white supremacists' words were drowned out by such chants as "Hey hey, ho ho, Nazi scum have got to go" from the larger crowd of about 500 counter-protesters who held signs that read "Nazis: Get Out of Los Angeles" and "Racists Are Ignorant."

There was a brief flare-up of violence before the speakers arrived. A shirtless man was seen being escorted to safety behind police lines by a plainclothes officer as counter-protesters punched and grabbed at him. Blood could be seen at the base of the man's neck.

National Lawyers Guild executive director James Lafferty, who attended both as a legal observer and counter-protester, said he saw the man get into a fight with crowd members who saw his Nazi lightning bolt tattoos.

Police Commander David Doan said a second man who crowd members believed was sympathetic with the white supremacists was also assaulted during the rally. Both men were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.

As the rally ended, counter-protesters hurled rocks, branches and other items over the police line and into a parking lot where the white supremacists' had left their cars.

Some members of the group had trouble starting a black Ford Mustang and attempted to hook up jumper cables to their engine. They protected themselves from the flying debris by holding up swastika-emblazoned shields.

Mr. Hammami then urges their mothers, who appear to be seated at the back of the room, to encourage the children to "learn military sciences" and tells the kids they "have to work hard and try to be like their hero fathers who were martyred in this path."

The children are later shown holding their plastic guns while waving black Al-Shabab flags in a pose reminiscent of terrorist videos. One child crawls prone on the floor with his rifle while another grimaces and aims his toy AK-47 at the camera.

"We are horrified by these images and by the exploitation of these very young Somali children by senior leaders of the Al-Shabab terrorist group," said Ahmed Hussen, president of the Canadian Somali Congress.

"The central role played by Omar Hammami in the recruitment of these very young children to Al-Shabab proves to us that foreign extremists will stop at nothing to bring further misery to Somalia," he said.

The RCMP and FBI have said they are concerned that Canadian and U.S. recruits could return from Al-Shabab's camps to conduct terrorist attacks in North America. The CSIS report called the Somali conflict "a direct threat to Canadian and international security."

A woman and three children were found shot to death this morning in the bedrooms of a Marquette Park bungalow, part of a crime scene police described as "incomprehensible." Two other people were critically wounded and a suspect - a relative of the victims - was in custody.

A 12-year-old girl who was shot at by the suspect as she fled the home alerted police at a nearby gas station, authorities said.

The children were Jihad, the 7-month-old son of the alleged gunman, his 3-year-old niece, Keleasha Larry, and his 16-year-old niece, Keyshai Fields, who a friend said was four months pregnant. Keyshai and Keleasha were found shot to death in the same bed.

The fourth victim was a 19-year-old woman identified by family members as the alleged gunman's wife, Twanda Thompson, who he married just weeks ago and who was expecting their second child. She and Jihad were found in bed in a separate bedroom with gunshot wounds to their heads, police said.

The two wounded were identified by family members as the alleged gunman's mother, Leona Larry, and his 13-year-old nephew, Demond Larry. They both suffered gunshots to the head and were taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, a fire department spokesman said.

The suspect was arrested several miles away about an hour and a half after the shootings.

A law enforcement source, citing preliminary information, said the man told police he had been hearing voices that told him to bring his family to Allah. He also told police he didn't have enough ammunition, the source said.

The suspect had been arrested in Madison last fall for allegedly beating Thompson, according to records. Just last week, Thompson filed a paternity case against the suspect, records show.

I have recently come to the conclusion that the number one problem of islam is that all muslims are taught to lie to all non muslims from childhood on. Central to the moral paralysis of muslims is their command to LIE to advance the cause of islam. Any and all media grovelers like Krauthammer just can't fathom the fact that all muslims lie all the time. A culture that promotes lying is a culture that can't be trusted to sign any agreement or agree to any peace proposal.

AP WASHINGTON (April 12) -- President Barack Obama and presidents, prime ministers and other top officials from 47 countries start work Monday on a battle plan to keep nuclear weapons out of terrorist hands.

Confronting what he calls the "single biggest threat to U.S. security," Obama is looking for global help in his goal of ensuring all nuclear materials worldwide are secured from theft or diversion within four years.

On the eve of what would be the largest assembly of world leaders hosted by an American president since 1945 - the San Francisco conference to found the United Nations - Obama said nuclear materials in the hands of al-Qaida or another terrorist group "could change the security landscape in this country and around the world for years to come."

While sweeping or even bold new strategies were unlikely to emerge from the two-day gathering, Obama declared himself pleased with what he heard in warm-up meetings Sunday with the leaders of Kazakhstan, South Africa, India and Pakistan.

"I feel very good at this stage in the degree of commitment and a sense of urgency that I have seen from the world leaders so far on this issue," Obama said. "We think we can make enormous progress on this, and this then becomes part and parcel of the broader focus that we've had over the last several weeks."

He was referring to what had gone before this, the fourth leg of his campaign to rid the world of nuclear weapons. The United States is the only country to use the weapons, two bombs dropped on Japan to force its surrender in World War II.
